The Western side of the Algarve is less developed than areas nearer to the airport. There are numerous beautiful beaches and most have very good restaurants right on the sand. The sea is great for bathing and travelling west there are many secluded beaches which are off the beaten track.
Nearby Lagos town is an easy place to be: there are ample street cafes and restaurants along the cobbled whitewashed streets, a local market every Saturday morning, interesting small shops, a fresh fish market and a lively night life. From the harbour you can go on a boat trip to spot dolphins, visit caves, fish or even charter your own yacht.
For a change from swimming pools and beaches, there are several fun attractions about forty minutes drive away from the villa. There is the big Slide and Splash water park at Lagoa, which has a large variety of slides to suit all ages.
A visit to Zoo Marine in Guia, includes a breathtaking dolphin show, seals and sea lions, an aquarium, 4D cinema, a swimming pool and a few rides too.
Other places to visit include the picturesque mountain spa town of Monchique and the Barragem de Bravura near Odiaxere, where you can swim in the dam's eucalyptus-scented water.
